Hasselblad Project: San Miguel

In 1841,  in the city of Gothenburg in western Sweden, the Hasselblad family established it first trading company, F.W. Hasseblad & Co.  Soon after, Viktor Hasselblad invented a camera system that grew to become on of the world’s most prestigious.  For this reason,  it was a Hasselblad that was chosen when the young astronaut, Neil Armstrong, became the first man to walk on the moon.

The Hasselblad Master Award is one of the most important of its kind, every two years celebrating the best in both established and rising photographic talent.
    
In November, 2012, the director of Hasselblad USA, Mic Greyer, came to San Miguel de Allende to give Philippe Perrin this coveted award as an Established Master. Perrin, a French photographer based in San Miguel, was declared Winner of the Hasselblad Latin America Photographer Competition in the category of Fine Art. The award included the remarkable new H4D Hasselblad digital camera to be used for 3 months in developing the project.
    
Perrin created the Hasselblad Project, San Miguel, inviting three San Miguel photogaphers: Jesus Herrera, Pascal Richard and Al Rabi Arredondo to share the experience.
   
Mic Greger, director of Hasselblad USA and Foto Regis, Mexico’s most important trading company in film and photography, together with the Hasselblad Project San Miguel team, cordially invited the public to a night of Fine Photography. The event took place, Tuesday, March 19th, from 6:00-8:00pm at Kunsthaus Santa Fe Gallery. The Project group showcased the results and shared their experience.

For the occasion and for the first time in Mexico, Hasselblad Latinoamerica launched its latest camera, the H5D, in San Miguel de Allende. Photographers had a chance to use it and to discover its remarkable new features. Fashion designer, Laura Reyes  created a lived photoshoot with professional dancer, Natalie Sirdey for portrait sessions alongside key workflow demonstrations.
